Early 1900's Churchgate Station level Crossing, Bombay

 

This is the level Crossing which existed next to the Churchgate Railway Station. This picture postcard is from the early 1900's when Bombay was still a small town and the railway station at Churchgate was very small compared to what we see today.

St. Mary's School, Mazgaon

 

This school was started in 1864 at Mazagaon by the Jesuits. This is one of the oldest schools in the area. A special Postal Cover was also released in 2013 by the Post Master General in 2013 to commemorate 150 years.

This is a Picture Post Card of a Coolie (Worker) from nearly a century ago. The life of a Coolie seems to have not changed in the last 100 years.

This is a Photo made to a picture post card showing the BEST (Bombay Electric and Suburban Transport) Tram. The last of the trams were shut down in the 1960's.

Bombay Racecourse.

 

A View of the Racecourse stand. This is now called as the Mahalaxmi Race course which was built in 1883. We can see the chimneys of many factories in the distance.

Khada Parsi Statue (Cursetjee Manecjee)

 

The 40-feet tall, cast-iron monument has a statue of Seth Cursetjee Manockjee (1763-1845), a nineteenth century Parsi businessman-education reformer, perched atop a Corinthian pillar with sculptures of four mermaids surrounding the base. It is below the Byculla Flyover

 St Thomas Cathedral. It is the oldest church in Bombay. Churchgate is the name of the old gate of the Bombay fort leading to this Church.
